Self-selected running gait modifications reduce acute impact loading, awkwardness, and effort

چکیده

Impact loading has been associated with running-related injuries, and gait retraining suggested as a means of reducing impact lowering the risk injury. However, can lead to increased perceived awkwardness effort. The influence specifically trained self-selected running modifications on acute loading, effort is currently unclear. Sixteen habitual rearfoot/midfoot runners performed forefoot strike pattern, step rate, anterior trunk lean an instrumented treadmill based real-time biofeedback. scores were compared among four conditions. Self-selected modification reduced vertical average rate (VALR) by 25.3%, instantaneous (VILR) 27.0%, peak (VIP) 16.8% baseline. Forefoot pattern VALR, VILR tibial acceleration. Increased VALR. Anterior did not reduce any loading. was less awkward require than (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that could be more natural effortful strategy while clinical significance remains unknown.

Manipulating self-selected gait patterns with an adaptive exoskeleton

Neurological injuries, such as stroke, result in weakened neural connections to distal muscles, specifically those that act about the ankle. Consequently, post-stroke patients experience gait deficiencies, which reduce stability and increase the overall energetic cost of walking [1,2]. Gait rehabilitation techniques have been developed to help patients relearn normal gait patterns by encouragin...

Applied horizontal force increases impact loading in reduced-gravity running.

The chronic exposure of astronauts to microgravity results in structural degradation of their lower limb bones. Currently, no effective exercise countermeasure exists. On Earth, the impact loading that occurs with regular locomotion is associated with the maintenance of bone's structural integrity, but impact loads are rarely experienced in space. Accurately mimicking Earth-like impact loads in...

Outsourcing Self-Regulation 1 Running Head: OUTSOURCING SELF-REGULATION Outsourcing Self-Regulatory Effort to Significant Others

Three studies demonstrate a novel phenomenon—self-regulatory outsourcing—in which thinking about how others can be instrumental (i.e., helpful) for a given goal undermines motivation to expend effort on that goal. In Experiment 1, participants who thought about how their partner helped them with health goals (vs. career goals) planned to spend less time and effort on health goals in the upcomin...

Concurrent musculoskeletal dynamics and finite element analysis predicts altered gait patterns to reduce foot tissue loading.

Current computational methods for simulating locomotion have primarily used muscle-driven multibody dynamics, in which neuromuscular control is optimized. Such simulations generally represent joints and soft tissue as simple kinematic or elastic elements for computational efficiency. These assumptions limit application in studies such as ligament injury or osteoarthritis, where local tissue loa...

Loading and running DNA sequencing gels.

INTRODUCTION The sets of nested DNA fragments generated by DNA sequencing methods are resolved by electrophoresis through thin denaturing polyacrylamide gels. WARNING Large voltages are passed through DNA-sequencing gels at substantial amperages. More than enough current is used in these gels to cause severe burns, ventricular fibrillation, central respiratory arrest, and asphyxia due to paraly...
